Galactic Lover

 dance film

Galactic Lover peeks into the minds and hearts of two strangers sharing a moment of connection. After a chance encounter, the women fantasize a life with each other before snapping back to reality. Whether or not the two end up together is left open to you, all we know for sure is that the potential is there. Choreographed for stage and adapted for film, I hope to share the fear, butterflies, and joyous high of a new relationship.

$0.02

an anti-capitalist dance film

Through this screen dance, I aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of late stage capitalism, concentrated wealth, and the inequality they create. Set to Pink Floyd’s Money, I researched how the message and socioeconomic context of the song is still relevant today: In what ways is our economic situation different than in 1973? How and why has socialist advocacy and support changed over the past 50 years? What events and policies in the past 50 years showcase harmful effects of capitalism? Inspired by the original music video for the song, I utilized quick cuts and a choppy editing style to build energy. The guiding themes I explored through the choreography and cinematography were: greed, austerity vs luxury, simplicity and repetition, sharp vs smooth, and geometric lines.

Peace, Love, MWW.

a mini documentary about University of south Carolina's Mountaineering and whitewater club.

The Carolina Mountaineering and Whitewater Club (MWW). has been getting students outside and building community for over 50 years. I joined the club as a freshman and later served as an officer, so I’ve seen first hand the impact it has had on campus. With hundreds of members, it is the largest non-sports club on campus and seeks not only to get members outside, but also to foster a diverse and accepting community. In the process of creating the mini-documentary, I interviewed both members and officers about their experiences. I ventured into the wilderness with the club; capturing the unique atmosphere created by these young hippies on their adventures.
